There are many useful benefits to Invisalign®. Unfortunately, many adults avoid tooth alignment treatment as they fear what the process may be like, thinking the devices could potentially be embarrassing to wear around others or affect their ability to function each day. In fact, the Invisalign® process is simple, easy and effective for adults.
How Invisalign® can help adults
When deciding upon teeth straightening, there are two main options to consider, braces and clear aligners treatment. The following are reasons to consider choosing Invisalign® over braces for adult teeth straightening treatment.
Effective treatment
Perhaps the main reason to consider Invisalign® is to achieve a more attractive and healthy smile. The treatment is highly effective at straightening mild to moderately misaligned teeth in adults, and it often works more quickly compared to other forms of alignment. Aside from the benefits offered during the treatment process, the long-term benefits of straighter teeth, such as more confidence in social or professional situations, are often substantial.
Transparent appearance
Invisalign® straightens the patient’s smile essentially without anyone else noticing. The aligners, which are made of clear plastic material, are transparent, meaning others cannot obviously see them but instead only the person’s teeth. For any adult who does not prefer the highly visible wires and brackets of metal braces, Invisalign®, which is all but invisible, is a great option.
Improved comfort
Patients who choose Invisalign® often report a higher level of comfort than those who decide on braces. While there is likely to be some discomfort when new sets of aligners are first worn and the teeth are shifting into a more well-aligned position, it is typically very tolerable and easy to manage with low levels of pain relief medication, a diet of soft foods and gentle oral care routine.
Fewer food restrictions
Braces typically require the patient not to eat hard or sticky foods. While there are some limitations with Invisalign®, such as limiting sugar intake to reduce the risk of enamel erosion, the overall food restrictions are far fewer than they are with tradition braces because the trays can be removed while eating. For the most part, the patient’s diet does not have to change, assuming they practice a good oral hygiene routine and ensure food particles do not get stuck between teeth and the clear aligners.
Easier oral care routine
Good oral care is essential with both braces and Invisalign® to prevent the development of stains on teeth or cavities. With braces, brushing the entire surface of a tooth and flossing in between teeth around the metal brackets is often challenging. With clear aligners, however, the patient can easily reach every section of the mouth and every tooth as normal, as the aligners are removable.
